Duda criticized Poland's ruling coalition in his New Year's address

Polish President Andrzej Duda criticized the ruling coalition in his New Year's address. The corresponding address was published on the president's website on December 31.
"Over the past year there have been many alarming signals related to the development of our country. Record budget deficit, delays with strategic investments such as the Central Communications Port or the construction of Poland's first nuclear power plant, problems in the health care system and the threat of hospital closures," Duda said.
He emphasized that as the country's president, he repeatedly drew attention to the fact that the living standards of Poles and the further development of Poland depend on these issues. Duda then blamed the current ruling coalition for many problems.
"Summarizing the results of this year, it is worth asking whether these issues were and remain a priority for the current ruling coalition. Unfortunately, the answer is no. It has focused on deepening divisions and exacerbating conflicts, leading to chaos in the judiciary and lack of legal security for Poles, thereby weakening Polish democracy," he said.
Earlier, on August 12, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the candidate for the upcoming Polish presidential election from the Civic Coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska) party, which is headed by the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, will be announced in January-February 2025.
The elections to the Sejm in Poland were held on October 15, 2023. According to their results, the parliamentary majority of 266 seats was created by the left-wing opposition parties, united in a coalition headed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Law and Justice party won 194 seats in the 460-seat Sejm.
At the same time, the opposition parties Civic Platform, Third Way and New Left, which entered the new parliament, signed a coalition agreement, formed a majority in the Sejm and approved the candidacy of their leader Donald Tusk for the post of the head of the government.
