Vladimir Putin wished Russians a Happy New Year
In his annual New Year's address, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russians on the New Year and outlined priorities for 2025, which he declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.
Speaking about the past year, the President pointed out that the first quarter of the XXI century was filled with historically significant, large-scale events for Russia. Putin emphasized that the unity of the people was strengthened by overcoming trials together, which gives the country a solid foundation for development.
"On this New Year's Eve, the thoughts, hopes of relatives and friends, millions of people across Russia together with our fighters and commanders. You are true heroes who have undertaken the great military labor to defend Russia, to provide our people with strong guarantees of peace and security," the President emphasized.
Putin in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, courage of servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and respect for ancestors declared 2025 the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. The president pointed out that Russians are descendants of the generation that destroyed Nazism and remains faithful to the covenants and traditions of veterans.
"I wish well-being and prosperity to each of our homes, each of our families and our beloved country - Russia. When we are together, everything will come true. Happy New Year, dear friends, Happy New Year 2025!" - Putin summarized.
Putin's New Year's address this year lasted about 3.5 minutes. Residents of the easternmost regions of the country - Kamchatka and Chukotka - were the first in Russia to greet the year 2025 at 15:00 Moscow time. In different time zones of the country the holiday is celebrated 11 times on this day. Residents of the Kaliningrad Region are the last to celebrate the New Year at 01:00 Moscow time.
