A man with a knife injured several passersby in Berlin

A man armed with a knife attacked passers-by in Berlin, several people were injured, the injuries of two are estimated as severe. This was reported by the newspaper Bild on December 31.

According to its data, the incident occurred around 11:50 local time (13:50 Moscow time) in the Charlottenburg neighborhood. The man behaved extremely aggressively, stabbing indiscriminately.

Passers-by managed to disarm him and held him until police arrived. The victims were hospitalized.

According to preliminary reports, the attacker suffers from mental illness. There is no evidence pointing to the Islamist or terrorist nature of the incident, the publication said.

Earlier, on December 28, a Ukrainian refugee suffering from schizophrenia tried to attack with an axe and a knife on police officers in the German town of Hirschberg and was seriously wounded. The man had reportedly been living in Germany for two years in a refugee hostel. An acquaintance described him as a "pleasant and calm young man".
