24 Russian prisoners of war have said that they were tortured in Ukrainian captivity. This is stated in the December 31 report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the situation in Ukraine from September to November 2024.

"During the reporting period, OHCHR interviewed 25 Russian prisoners of war in Ukrainian detention facilities, including the recently opened Zahid-4 camp in Lviv. All but one reported having been subjected to torture or ill-treatment at one or more stages of captivity in 2024. 14 POWs were sexually abused," the report noted.

In addition, during the same period, the organization recorded four cases when Ukrainian UAVs killed three Russian servicemen and one AFU fighter who was seriously wounded.

The report also notes that one video shows a severely wounded Russian military man lying disarmed on the ground and at that moment an FPV drone targets and kills him.

Earlier, on October 1, a report by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that more than half of the Russian servicemen captured by the AFU were tortured. It was specified that most acts of torture are committed in unofficial places of detention and during transit to prisons and pre-trial detention centers.

As Viktor Zavarzin, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, noted at the same time, the data on the torture of Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine published in the OHCHR report are very important. It is necessary to publicize all the crimes that are being committed in Ukraine. Russia is trying to tell about the actions of the AFU with regard to prisoners of war on all international platforms, he pointed out.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military
