More than 1 million people were left without electricity due to an accident at one of the power plants in Puerto Rico. This was reported by the local energy company LUMA Energy on December 31.

It specified that the restoration of power supply, the outage of which began earlier in the day at 5:30 (12:30 Moscow time), will take 24 to 48 hours, if conditions allow.

"More than 1.3 million customers were affected as a result of the accident, which occurred as a result of a 230,000-volt underground line failure. More than 1.4 million subscribers are connected to the network," the Primera Hora publication quoted the company's statement as saying.

It is noted that the preliminary results of the investigation of the incident indicate an accident of the subway line.

Earlier, on October 18, due to an accident at the CHPP, Cuba was left without electricity. The Russian Embassy in Havana on the same day urged Russians to remain calm amid the blackout. Then, on October 20, the country's power system, which was partially restored, failed again.

Meanwhile, residents of Havana told Izvestia about the situation in Cuba caused by the blackout. Havana local Alvarez noted that all discotheques and cultural events in the city were closed and only food businesses were allowed to stay open.
