In Lithuania, 82-year-old man accused of allegedly spying for Russia


A Lithuanian resident has been accused of allegedly spying for Russia, his case has been referred to court. This was reported on December 31 by the portal Delfi with reference to the Prosecutor General's office of the Republic.
"The criminal case with the indictment was transferred to the court of appeal of Lithuania with a request to transfer the case to the Vilnius district court", - stated in the material.

He was detained in early 2024, and in early December in the Prosecutor General's office of Lithuania reported the completion of the preliminary investigation into the espionage case. The sources of the publication specified that it is about 82-year-old former conservative, citizen of Lithuania and Russia Eduardas Manovas, who in 2011 participated in local elections.
Earlier, on December 25, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia has announced pre-trial claims to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia because of discrimination against Russians in these countries. According to her, all available international judicial mechanisms will be used against the states that discriminate on their territories.
