Poland names condition for increasing electricity supplies to Ukraine

A spokesman for the Polish Electricity Networks, Maciej Wapiński, has said that if Slovakia stops supplying electricity to Ukraine, Poland is ready to help Kiev, but with the support of Hungary and Romania. He said this in an interview with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita on December 31.
"As the speaker of PSE (Solution of Environmental Problems. - Ed.) added, if Slovakia stopped providing capacity for electricity transmission on the interconnector with Ukraine, these capacities could be distributed among other countries, including Poland," Wapiński explained.
Thus, Wapiński admits the possibility of increasing Warsaw's electricity supplies to Ukraine. However, according to him, Poland needs the consent of Romania and Hungary to ensure the security of the market in the entire region.
Before that, on December 29, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo asked European Union (EU) leaders to pay attention to Ukraine's decision on gas from Russia. He emphasized that the cessation of gas transit through Ukrainian territory would inevitably lead to conflicts.
Earlier, on December 28, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko addressed the EU over Fitzo's threats to cut off electricity supplies. He said that Ukraine was ready to replace Slovak electricity with supplies from other neighbors. According to him, negotiations with partners have already been held.
On December 22, Putin and the Slovak prime minister held talks in the Kremlin. Fitzo called his visit to Russia a reaction to the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20) about the termination of Russian gas transit to Europe.
Also on December 20, Fitzo said that Zelensky said he would agree to transit Russian gas through Ukraine if Western countries did not pay Russia for the fuel until the conflict ended. The Slovak prime minister called this condition absurd, as no one will supply gas for free, and Kiev thus completely excludes the possibility of transit.
