FRG media pointed to a drop in the morale of the AFU and an increase in desertions

Fighters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are losing motivation and desertion in their ranks is on the rise. This was reported by the Welt business daily on December 30.
The piece notes that with such trends, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired on May 20) will be forced to give up territories for a ceasefire.
Welt adds that Western allies have not shown their willingness to step up aid to Kiev, which, as they themselves have stated, affects Ukraine's position in negotiations with Russia, which for months now has held strong positions on all parts of the front.
Earlier in the day, the governor of the Kherson region said that the goals of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine were being successfully achieved by Russia, while the Kiev regime was consistently suffering a strategic defeat. He noted that the AFU was experiencing a shortage of weapons and personnel, and the remaining soldiers were losing motivation to fight.
Before that, on December 28, the Associated Press agency reported on demoralization in the ranks of the AFU due to the impending defeat of Ukrainian fighters in the Kursk region. The material notes that some commanders complain about difficult conditions and low morale. At the same time fighters doubt not only in the decisions of the leadership, but also in the very purpose of the occupation.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
