New Year's Eve is associated with fireworks and Bengal lights, but it is fire hazardous objects that can cause injuries and damage if handled carelessly. Sergei Pobedonostsev, project manager of integrated security systems, told Sputnik Radio on December 31.

"Most often fires are caused by both children and adults playing with fire in the form of clappers, firecrackers, Bengal lights and other New Year's fireworks. The most dangerous, I believe, are Bengal lights," he said.

Pobedonostsev also called among the dangerous items Roman candles, tinsel on the Christmas tree because of its flammability, as well as clappers, firecrackers and other types of fireworks, which are often launched in inappropriate places.

In addition, according to the expert, electric Christmas tree lights also often become the cause of fires. He advised to always unplug it after use, as well as not to buy cheap garlands "from hand". Pobedonostsev also noted that the launching of fireworks, which is a mandatory element of the holiday, should also be done carefully.

"In each district of any city, the Ministry of Emergency Situations allocates specialized sites for launching fireworks, where there is usually an EMERCOM officer with fire extinguishers <...> . If you have a private house or dacha, where you decided to celebrate the New Year, it is important to remember that closer than 50 meters from residential buildings to launch fireworks is not allowed," he stressed.

The expert advised to always carry a fire extinguisher type OP-5, as well as to be in a sane and sober mind.
