NYT reported Musk living in Trump's rented cottage after the election

American entrepreneur Ilon Musk after the presidential election in the United States lives in a cottage rented from the elected leader of the country Donald Trump on the territory of his estate Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The New York Times reported on December 30, citing sources.

"For most of the time since Election Day, the billionaire (Ilon Musk. - Ed.) has lived in a $2,000-a-night cottage at Mar-a-Lago, giving him easy access to the president-elect. <...> Most of the time after Election Day, he was Trump's tenant," the publication noted.

The publication pointed out that Musk moved into the cottage around the day of the presidential election and watched the results at Mar-a-Lago with Trump. One of the newspaper's sources said that the cottage where the billionaire lives is located near the main house at Mar-a-Lago, just "a few hundred feet away." However, it is still unclear how much Musk will end up paying to live in the cottage, but it is noted that it has historically rented for at least $2,000 a night.

"Trump bragged to people that Musk - the richest man in the world - was 'renting' one of the accommodations at Mar-a-Lago. <...> Trump is not known to shun income opportunities," the publication added.

According to the NYT, Musk left the estate on Christmas Day and is expected to return in the coming days. The publication also estimated that the entrepreneur is unlikely to have such "unfettered physical access" to Trump after the politician's inauguration on January 20, 2025.

Earlier on December 28, Trump posted a personal message to Musk on his Truth Social platform, where he invited the entrepreneur to his "center of the universe " - as he calls his Mar-a-Lago estate - for a New Year's Eve soiree. The politician also noted that he missed the businessman and his son named X Æ A-Xii, whom he called X for short.

Prior to that, on December 19, HuffPost reported that the rumor that Musk is allegedly the shadow president of the United States, came after the billionaire spent a whole day engaged in discussions on a bill to fund the government and argued with Republicans, while Trump remained silent. At the time, it was also reported that a number of Republican congressmen were proposing that Musk be nominated to be speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Trump announced in November that Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy would lead a new structure - the Department of Government Efficiency, which will also oversee the fight against corruption.
