The Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation (part of Rostec State Corporation) has sent the Russian Ministry of Defense the final 2024 shipments of T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks and modernized T-72B3 tanks. The press service of the Uralvagonzavod Concern informed journalists about this on December 31.

According to the established tradition, the tank builders decorated the vehicles from each batch in a New Year's style: the Russian flag was installed on the T-90M and a Christmas tree on the T-72B3.

Since the beginning of the Special Military Operation (SMO), more than a hundred changes have been made to the design of the tanks. For example, all vehicles are equipped with nets against FVP drones and rubber reinforced protection. The vehicles are also fitted with visibility reduction equipment and electronic warfare (EW) systems to counter drones.

According to Alexander Potapov, general director of Uralvagonzavod Concern JSC, a tank of the early 2022 model and a tank of the late 2024 model are essentially two different combat vehicles, because, for example, even the defense system previously did not anticipate many of the challenges that had to be faced literally from the first days of the SVO.

"Immediately the appropriate refinements were adopted, the designers worked day and night, and the factory workers promptly made changes to the products that were already standing on the assembly line in the shop. This painstaking and responsible work of the factory workers was marked by the eighth state award - the Order "For Labor Valor", - he noted.

Earlier, on November 23, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called the T-90M tank the best in the world. He also noted the work of the Uralvagonzavod enterprise, which he visited on the same day. Medvedev emphasized that the plant "is working to a large extent to achieve the goal of the special military operation."

Before that, on November 6, Alexander Spiridonov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade, spoke about the combat superiority of the T-90 tank over its foreign counterparts. According to him, the T-90 tank was created as a competitor to the U.S. Abrams.
