Russia has returned 150 servicemen from Ukrainian captivity as part of an exchange with Kiev. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on Monday, December 30.

"As a result of the negotiation process, 150 Russian servicemen have been returned from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime. In return, 150 AFU prisoners of war have been handed over," the statement reads.

All released Russian servicemen are now on the territory of Belarus, the Defense Ministry said.

They are provided with all the necessary psychological and medical assistance and given the opportunity to contact their relatives. The servicemen will be taken to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions of the Defense Ministry.

It is noted that the United Arab Emirates acted as an intermediary in the return of Russian servicemen from captivity.

Earlier, on 20 December, Russian human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova and her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Lubinets discussed the lists of prisoners of war and missing persons. The meeting also addressed issues of further humanitarian cooperation to assist civilians.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
