America's Cup winner and ex-Barcelona player Hugo Sotil died


South American footballer, winner of the America's Cup in 1975 Peruvian Hugo Sotil died at the age of 78 years. This was reported on December 30 by the press service of the Spanish club Barcelona.
The athlete played for the club in 1973-1977 and noted 62 games for the national team of Peru.
"Sotil was an important part of the team <...> in October 2014, Sotil admitted: "The love of the people of Barça is unforgettable. On the day of my death, I hope to be buried in a Barça shirt," the statement reads.
The player helped Barcelona win their first league title in 14 years, but the following season he lost his place at the heart of the Dutchman Johan Neskens, and when he got the chance to play again in the 1975/76 season, he was no longer in the right shape.
