A new package of military aid to Ukraine includes ammunition for HIMARS, artillery shells, Javelin systems, Tow missiles and other weapons. This was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on December 30.

"The United States is providing another significant package of much-needed weapons and equipment to our Ukrainian partners," - said in his statement.

It is noted that Washington intends to send ammunition for air defense systems, artillery ammunition of 155 mm and 105 mm caliber, air-to-ground projectiles, missiles for TOW anti-tank systems, as well as "ammunition for group weapons and fragmentation grenades; equipment and ammunition for detonation."

It is also planned to include communication equipment, transportation, software, equipment elements and spare parts in the aid package.

In turn, the head of the U.S. Ministry of Finance Janet Yellen said that the U.S. authorities are transferring $3.4 billion to Ukraine as budgetary assistance.

"In coordination with the US Agency for International Development and with the State Department, we are allocating $3.4 billion," the agency's website quotes her as saying.

Yellen added that this is the last payment to Kiev from the funds allocated by Congress for this purpose for the current year.

A new aid package worth almost $2.5 billion to Kiev was announced by US President Joe Biden earlier in the day. The statement said that the package will include assistance to the Ukrainian military in the amount of $1.25bn, as well as assistance within the framework of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) in the amount of $1.22bn.

Before that, on December 13, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev told Izvestia that Biden was coordinating the transfer of huge funds to Ukraine at the end of his term because he had nothing left to lose.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
