Slovak Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kaliniak has said that Ukraine will have to accept the loss of some territories. He said this in an interview with Slovak TV channel TA3 on December 30.

"According to the defense minister, reality shows that Ukraine will have to give up part of its territory," the publication said.

In addition, Kaliniak said that Slovakia is interested in an early end to the Ukrainian conflict and in peace talks, in which the country could also take part.

Earlier, on December 28, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reminded that Slovakia, which declared its readiness to host the talks on Ukraine, was not the only country that had made such a proposal.

On December 22, the Kremlin hosted talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Later, the Russian leader said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo suggested making Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state clarified. Putin noted that the Russian Federation seeks to end the conflict, not to freeze it.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
