French farmers' union "Rural Coordination" calls on farmers to blockade Paris on January 5, if it is not possible to meet with French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou and Agriculture Minister Annie Genevar. Patrick Legra, a spokesman for the union, said on December 30.

"If we don't get a meeting with François Bayrou and Annie Genevar by Thursday, after the prime minister returns from Mayotte, we will call Paris. We are already organizing ourselves, appointing meeting places. The idea will be to block access to the capital from Sunday (January 5. - Ed.)," Le Figaro quotes a union representative as saying.

He called for the blockade of all farmers, regardless of whether they are members of the union or not.

Earlier, on December 13, during a dialog with Bayrou, former French Prime Minister Michel Barnier pointed out the difficult situation in the country. Barnier pointed out the following problems in the country: farmers' demands, security issues, hospitals, simplification in governance, environment and immigration. According to him, Francois Bayrou should continue to seek solutions to these issues.

Before that, on December 7, it became known about the large-scale protest action held in Paris during the meeting in the Elysee Palace of the head of France and US President-elect Donald Trump. The protesters called for the resignation of the country's leader.

Meanwhile, on December 11, protesting farmers on tractors drove to the Parliament building in London. Then it was reported that hundreds of farmers came out to protest due to dissatisfaction over the changes in the inheritance tax. A 20% inheritance tax on farmland worth above £1 million was announced by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government after coming to power.

Also on November 17, a mass protest against Starmer's policy was organized by farmers from Wales. The rally was held in the town of Llandudno in north Wales near the building where the Labor Party conferences are held.
