"By decisive actions of the units of the Center group of troops, the settlement of Novovolenovka in the Donetsk People's Republic has been liberated," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the units of the grouping defeated the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the areas of the settlements of Dzerzhinsk, Vozdvizhenka, Dachenskoye and Peschanoye of the DNR. Eleven enemy counterattacks were repelled.

The AFU lost up to 420 fighters, two tanks, including a Leopard manufactured by Germany, two infantry fighting vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, a Snatch armored fighting vehicle manufactured by Great Britain, five pickup trucks and an electronic warfare station.

The day before, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian army had liberated the Novotroitskoye point of the Donetsk People's Republic. It was specified that the Russian military hit the manpower and equipment of three mechanized, motorized infantry brigades of the AFU, a brigade of marines, a brigade of tera defense and an assault brigade of the Ukrainian national police.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
