Student gets a year of compulsory labor for fatal scooter accident in Moscow


Moscow Preobrazhensky Court sentenced 19-year-old student Vadim Afanasyev, who killed a man on a scooter in Sokolniki Park, to a year of compulsory labor. This became known on December 30 from the guilty verdict.
The incident occurred on April 26, when the young man and his girlfriend were riding a rented scooter. After the collision, the injured man was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. According to the testimony of Afanasyev's girlfriend, the young man tried to brake, but he failed. He immediately ran up to the victim while he was still conscious, she said in court. However, the police recorded that the young man fled the scene.
"To appoint Afanasyev Vadim Lvovich Afanasyev punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 1 year, which in accordance with part 2 of article 53.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation to replace with forced labor for a term of 1 year with deduction of 10% of wages to the income of the state", - follows the court document, which was familiarized by TASS.
The young man was found guilty under part 2 of article 268 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules ensuring the safe operation of transport, which caused the death of a person by negligence"). In addition, Afanasyev was also found guilty of vandalism: in June, he broke a validator at the subway station "Tekstilshchiki". He pleaded guilty to both episodes.
As mitigating circumstances, the court took into account the fact that Afanasyev's family is dependent on him, the young man financially helps relatives and takes part in the upbringing of his younger sister.
Earlier, September 20, it was reported that the driver of an electric scooter paid 1.4 million rubles to a resident of St. Petersburg for her injuries. After the accident, the St. Petersburg woman had to spend more than six months on sick leave.
