Beijing says it is ready to develop friendly relations with the DPRK

China is ready to develop friendly relations with the DPRK. This was stated on Monday, December 30, by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

"We are ready to maintain, strengthen and develop relations with the DPRK in accordance with the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries," TASS quoted her as saying on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the states.

According to the diplomat, China and the DPRK have good-neighborly and warm relations based on long-standing traditions of friendship and partnership.

Earlier, China expressed the DPRK's readiness to strengthen strategic coordination. It was specified that the PRC emphasized the importance of relations between Beijing and Pyongyang, and expressed readiness to contribute to their strengthening and long-term development.

Prior to that, on August 18, it was reported that imports of goods from the DPRK to China in January-July amounted to $198 million, up 24% year-on-year. It was specified that exports from China to the DPRK decreased by 13.3% to $914 million in the same period.

On April 13, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (Parliament) Zhao Leji during his visit to Pyongyang said that the Chinese authorities announced their intention to expand cooperation with the DPRK. In particular, they spoke of their readiness to work to realize the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries, as well as to deepen strategic mutual trust.
