Vilfand predicted wet snow on New Year's Eve in Moscow


In Moscow on New Year's Eve there will be wet snow, wind 5-10 m/s and temperature up to -4 degrees Celsius, and in the region it may get colder up to 6 degrees Celsius. This was reported on Monday, December 30, by the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand.
"On New Year's Eve the capital will be near the cyclone, a little snow will certainly be, the temperature will be from-2 to -4 degrees, in the region - up to -6. This is comfortable weather, mild, strong wind is not expected, in the evening will be 5-10 m/s," - TASS quoted him as saying.
The forecaster noted that December 30 in the afternoon will be up to +3 degrees, it is 7-8 degrees above normal. On December 31, snow and wet snow are expected due to lower temperatures in the upper atmosphere and the wind will increase up to 15 m/s. January 1 and 2 is expected to be around 0 degrees. Then the temperature will begin to fall, and by the end of the week at night and during the day will be from -1 to -5 degrees, it will snow.
According to Wilfand, January 4 in the capital will cool down to -10 at night and from -2 to -5 in the afternoon, it will snow and the weather will be comfortable. He warns of heavy icy conditions due to near-zero temperatures for the rest of the year.
Earlier, on December 26, Vilfand reported that 3 mm of precipitation will fall in Moscow by the end of 2024. He noted that there are no conditions for significant precipitation, because the pressure is high.
