The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported about the activation of telephone scammers before the New Year

Phone scammers intensified their activities before the New Year to destabilize the situation in Russia. This was reported on Monday, December 30, in the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry.

"On the eve of the New Year vacations, increased activity on the part of fraudsters to shake up the credit and financial system and destabilize the situation inside our state has been noted," TASS quoted the report as saying.

It is specified that at first fraudsters trick the victim into taking a loan and giving them the money. Then, when the victim tries to return the funds, the fraudsters convince her that she is involved in a covert operation to catch them, and under this pretext force her to commit a crime. As a result, the victim, who wanted to return her money, herself becomes accused of committing a serious crime.

Earlier, December 26, the Interior Ministry urged citizens to be vigilant and not to trust strangers on the phone or through other means of communication. It was specified that cases of arson and bombings, in which the elderly and young people are involved, promising money, "return of stolen goods" or intimidating criminal cases, are becoming more frequent.
