A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the island of Luzon in the Philippines


An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 occurred on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. This was reported on December 30 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center(EMSC).
Seismic activity was recorded in 39 km northeast of the city of Laoag. The source was at a depth of 34 km.
Earlier, on December 27, on the island of Luzon in the Philippines has already experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7. Seismic activity was recorded 112 km from the city of Butua, located in the north-east of the island of Mindanao.
Before that, on December 17, an earthquake occurred off the coast of Vanuatu. Its origin lay at a depth of 43 kilometers, and the threat of a tsunami was also announced. As a result, one person was killed, the building of the French and US embassies was also damaged.
Later in the day Vanuatu was hit by an earthquake with magnitude 5.5 at a depth of 58 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was 17 km west of Port Vila, the capital of the state. As a result no one was injured. No tsunami threat was announced.
