US President Joe Biden called former White House chief Jimmy Carter "an outstanding leader and humanitarian" after his death. His statement on December 29 is given on the White House website.

"Today America and the world have lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian. <...> He was a man of great character and courage, hope and optimism," Biden said.

The US president also informed that a large-scale farewell ceremony for Carter will be held in the American capital.

"We are going to hold a large-scale ceremony in Washington on this occasion," he announced, adding that preparations for the farewell ceremony have already begun, with the relatives of the former president are coordinating the timing of the event.

In turn, US President-elect Donald Trump also expressed condolences over the death of the former president.

"The problems Jimmy faced as president came at a turning point for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude," he wrote on his Truth Social network.

In addition, a number of world leaders expressed their condolences on social network X (former Twitter) over the passing of the former US president.

"All his life, Jimmy Carter defended the rights of the most vulnerable people and tirelessly fought for peace," French President Emmanuel Macron wrote.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) honored the memory of the 39th US president who passed away and recalled that it was under Carter that the crown of St. Istvan was returned to Hungary from the United States.

"The memory of President Jimmy Carter will always be cherished in Hungary. By returning the Holy Crown to the people of Hungary in the late 1970s, he gave freedom-loving Hungarians hope in a hopeless time," he wrote.

Also in Telegram-channel, the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic Ivan Gil Pinto expressed condolences to the family of the former US President and pointed out the politician's commitment to peace.

Earlier in the day it became known that former US President Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100. Carter entered hospice at home in February 2023 in Plains, Georgia, after a series of short hospitalizations.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th U.S. President (1977-1981) of the Democratic Party, became the first White House chief of staff to reach the age of 100. For his work as president and leader of the Carter Center, he received the Nobel Prize, the United Nations Human Rights Award, and numerous other significant awards from countries, organizations, and world leaders. In addition, Carter and his wife Rosalynn were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by U.S. President (1993-2001) Bill Clinton.
