Azerbaijan plans to resume work of diplomatic mission in Syria

Azerbaijan plans to resume the work of its embassy after 12 years. This was reported by Reporter.az agency on December 29.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev met with Foreign Minister of the Transitional Government of Syria Assad Hassan al-Shibani in Damascus. During the meeting the sides discussed agreements on development of joint cooperation. The Azerbaijani embassy will start its work in the Syrian capital in the near future.
Rafiyev noted Azerbaijan's experience in recovery and reconstruction after armed conflicts, which can be useful for the Syrian state.
He also emphasized that Syria will not only receive humanitarian aid, but also needs diplomatic support.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reported on December 8 that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of the head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. The National Coalition of Revolutionary and Opposition Forces of Syria said it was working on the formation of a transitional authority. The country is expected to hold a referendum.
The situation in Syria escalated as a result of a major attack by armed groups in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to a response by the Syrian army.
