Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon has called on the opposition forces to unite in order to achieve a change of power in the country. He said this in an interview with Tribuna on December 29.

According to him, the activities of the ruling Action and Solidarity party are completely contrary to the interests of citizens.

"I appeal to all opposition parties <...> to focus their efforts on fighting the dictatorial and xenophobic party in power, I mean the Action and Solidarity party, which promised 'good times', but it brought the Moldovan people terrible times, poverty, censorship, blackmail, fear and distrust for tomorrow," Dodon said.

He added that the opposition parties were able to realize the danger from the current government, which has imposed a state of emergency in the country.

Earlier, on October 31, the Moldovan opposition staged a protest outside the Constitutional Court against the recognition of the results of the referendum on EU accession.

On December 19, Igor Dodon said that Moldova was in a pre-revolutionary situation. The former president added that the protests in the country would only grow, so he urged to go to the protests without slogans and flags so that the current government would realize its incompetence.

Before that, on October 20, Moldova held a referendum on the country's European integration and presidential elections among 11 candidates. Only nine out of 36 Moldovan districts voted in favor of changing the Constitution for the sake of joining the EU, while in Gagauzia more than 90% of those who voted were against European integration. On 25 October, the Moldovan Central Electoral Commission recognized the referendum as valid, approved its final results and sent them to the country's Constitutional Court for approval.
