A new sophisticated scheme to defraud Russians has become known

Phone scammers have become active in using popular messengers and government services, in particular, Gosuservices and WhatsApp (owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in Russia). A representative of Bilayn told Vedomosti on December 29.
According to him, attackers have learned how to hack the messenger. They call through it, posing as employees of telecom operators, and report an allegedly hacked account, offering their help. This is how the con artists persuade to turn on the screen demo and show the banking applications. If they succeed, the victim is left without money.
In addition, scammers began to use the portal "Gosuservices". To get the code to it from SMS, they call, introducing themselves as medical workers or representatives of public services.
It is specified that the victims of fraudsters are usually pensioners. At the same time, 44% of deceived people have higher education, which speaks of the "professionalism" of con artists.
A day earlier it was reported that in Moscow, a student gave fraudsters cash and jewelry from the safe for a total of 7.5 million rubles. During communication, the criminals forced the victim to install an unknown application and tell about the property in the apartment.
