Russia is not satisfied with the proposals of US President-elect Donald Trump's team to postpone Ukraine 's membership in NATO for 20 years and introduce British and European Union (EU) peacekeepers on its territory, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said on 29 December. Russian Foreign Ministry head Sergei Lavrov said on December 29.

"We are certainly not satisfied with the proposals sounding on behalf of representatives of the president-elect's team to postpone Ukraine's NATO membership for 20 years and to introduce a peacekeeping contingent of British and European forces to Ukraine," he said in an interview with TASS.

According to the Russian foreign minister, such ideas follow from leaks and interviews of Trump and members of his team to the media.

In addition, Lavrov recalled that Moscow has not received any official proposals on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Before Trump's inauguration, only incumbent President Joe Biden and his administration can make official contact with Russia on behalf of the United States, the Russian Foreign Minister explained.

The day before, on December 28, the Berliner Zeitung newspaper said that negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine should take place between Russia and the United States.

On the same day, the FT newspaper reported that Trump could force Kiev to conclude a peace agreement without providing her with security guarantees. According to the material, the settlement will take place in the form of a major deal between the United States, Russia and China, and under the terms of the agreement, the United States will allegedly cede a number of spheres of influence.

Then the same Lieutenant Colonel of the Armed forces of the United States retired Daniel Davis expressed the opinion that the position of the future President of the United States in the negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict will become weaker with each day passing after his inauguration, scheduled for January 20.

Before that, on December 22, US President-elect Donald Trump said that he was waiting for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to start negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The Republican added that if he were in the place of the current US President Joe Biden, he would not have allowed such a crisis at all.

The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.
