Children from the Donetsk People's Republic attended a festive New Year's performance at the Mariupol Drama Theater.

In 2014, the word "Russian" was removed from the name of the Mariupol Drama Theatre as part of forced Ukrainianization. At that time, the theater staff was told to stage performances only in Ukrainian, despite the fact that the actors and audience are Russian-speaking. During the Special Military Operation (SMO) in 2022, the theater again had the word "Russian" in its name.

The director of the Mariupol Republican Russian Drama Theater, Natalia Goncharova, shared her memories of having to cut the repertoire, removing all Russian classics.

"And at the end in '22, we were practically not playing in Russian anymore. Certainly, it was violence. And on the audience. Because the audience came, found out what language, turned around and very many left if in Ukrainian," she said.

For the second year in a row Mariupol children have access to all the New Year attributes of peaceful life, such as a Christmas tree, Santa Claus, theatrical performances and gifts: children - candy, and teenagers who will come to "The Inspector" - books. This is a joint project of the Independent Union of Theater and Cinema Artists and the Charity Fund for Children of Donbass, established by Joint Stock Bank "ROSSIYA".

"New Year is a holiday when we all make wishes and plan our future year. We would like all children's dreams and wishes to come true for sure. Therefore, first of all, the feeling of magic, holiday - these are the emotions we would like children to experience", - said the director of the Foundation Kristina Fedoseeva.

Earlier, on December 28, the head of the People's Front executive committee, Mikhail Kuznetsov, personally delivered gifts to the DNR for children as part of the all-Russian charitable New Year's campaign "Wish Tree".
