Russian scientists have detected a powerful flare of the highest class X on the Sun. This was reported to TASS in the Space Weather Monitoring Center on December 29.

"At 10:17 Moscow time, a flare X1.1 was registered in the X-ray range", - noted in the message.

At the moment, experts are assessing whether this X-class flare can lead to a strong magnetic storm on Earth.

Before that, on December 26, Russian scientists predicted a powerful solar flare. According to specialists of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, already now on the star increased level of background X-ray radiation. And also increased the area of active solar zones. Scientists say that the emergence of the highest category X flare is expected.
