Expert names possible reasons for plane crash in South Korea

The cause of the crash of a Jeju Air airplane at landing in South Korea could be a broken reverse gear of the plane or deliberate failure of the crew to reduce speed. Yuri Bordunov, deputy director of the Khabarovsk Aviation and Sports Club for flight training, told Izvestia on December 29.
"The airplane was moving along the strip without reducing speed. There could be two reasons: the reverser did not work <...>, or the crew deliberately did not lower the nose of the airplane all the way down so that the fire would not start earlier," the expert noted.
The expert noted that if the plane had landed on the ground and did not have obstacles in the form of a concrete wall, the consequences might not have been so terrible. He ruled out that the problem of landing gear exit was a bird hitting the right engine of the airliner. In addition, he added that the cause of the airplane crash could have been other circumstances in addition to the malfunction of the landing gear.
There were 175 passengers on board the Boeing 737-800 airliner, which was on a flight from Bangkok to Muang Airport. According to the latest media reports, 120 people died in the crash.
The emergency at Muang Airport with the airplane of Jeju Air became known earlier in the day.
