The number of people killed in the crash of the airplane of Jeju Air in South Korea during landing at Muang airport has risen to 120 people. This was reported in the agency Yonhap on December 29, citing firefighters.

"The death toll in the Jeju Air plane crash has risen to 120 people. <...> Checks are continuing," the agency quoted the fire departments as saying.

South Korea's acting President Choi Sang-mok declared Muang a special disaster zone in connection with the incident, Yonhap informs.

According to the agency, it was decided to form a team to investigate the plane crash at Muang airport. The team will be headed by South Korean politician Kwon Young-jin.

According to the publication, the airplane crash investigation task force will visit the Central Disaster and Security Headquarters in Seoul to understand the circumstances of the crash. On Dec. 30, Kwon and members of the team plan to visit the crash site and listen to opinions on measures to address the crash and prevent its recurrence. They will also visit the families of the victims.

The crash of the Jeju Air plane while landing at Muang Airport was reported earlier in the day. Authorities are investigating the scene to determine the exact cause of the crash, and rescue operations are also underway. According to the airport authority, the plane crashed while landing on the fuselage due to landing gear failure before it could shed speed.
