In the U.S. Malibu, a drone helped find an elderly man suffering from dementia after he went out to pick up mail from an address box but did not return. The news was reported by CBS News on Dec. 27.

Several drones with infrared heat-seeking technology were involved in the search, and the pilot spotted "a significant heat trail over the side of the road in dense shrubbery".

"If it wasn't for the drone, we definitely wouldn't have been able to find him," said Oscar Peraza, one of the drone operators.

The man had hypothermia, was confused and unable to walk. Rescuers handed him over to medics for treatment.

Earlier, on November 26, in Turkey, rescuers found alive an elderly couple lost during bad weather. Najia and Mustafa Akinu, 70, were lost due to unfavorable weather conditions and snowfall in the Akseki district of Antalya.
