The total volume of budget seats for the 2025/26 academic year in Russian universities will amount to 619.1 thousand. This is reported on December 28 on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science.

"The largest increase in budget places came to medical specialties. And the largest number of places in general established in training areas and specialties in the field of engineering", - informed the press service of the department.

It is specified that the universities of Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DNR) and (LNR), Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions were allocated 27.1 thousand budgetary places, of which more than 18.2 thousand places were allocated for bachelor's and specialist programs.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science noted that 73% of the number of all places are distributed among the regions of Russia. The largest number of budgetary places among regional universities were Ural (UrFU), Kazan (KFU), Southern (SFU) and Siberian Federal Universities (SFU), as well as the Don State Technical University (DSTU).

Earlier, on December 23, the head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov said that the number of budget places in higher educational institutions (HEI) of the country will increase in 2025. He stressed that it is important to take into account not only the number of budget seats in universities, but also the quality of education and the content of educational programs.
