Russia is concerned about the escalation of tension on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on December 27.

" Moscow is concerned about the escalation of tension on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where not only servicemen but also civilians are dying as a result of shootings," her words are quoted on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Zakharova called on the parties to the conflict for restraint and constructive dialog aimed at peaceful resolution of all differences.

On this day, Afghan forces struck areas of Pakistan in response to an attack by Pakistani aircraft on Afghan territory. Afghanistan has reportedly rejected for years the border known as the "hypothetical line" drawn by British colonial authorities in the 19th century between what is now Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Earlier on December 27, the head of a government commission investigating the aftermath of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bombing of Barmal district of eastern Afghanistan's Paktika province, Afghan Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs Nurullah Noori, confirmed that at least 50 people were killed and about 40 civilians were injured in the bombing strikes.
