Hazing, rape and the use of illegal substances are rampant on board the British Royal Navy submarine fleet. This was reported by the Daily Mail newspaper on Saturday, December 28, citing sources.

"The Royal Navy's submarine service suffers from 'gang rapes,' drug dealers and lecherous officers with their 'rape lists,' and crews exchange Top Trump-style cards (card game. - Ed.) with the names of the worst offenders," the material said.

According to the publication, on one of the underwater vessels male staff keeps a list with crew members who will be raped in the first place in case of an unforeseen disaster at sea. At the same time, one of the sailors, after learning that his name was on the list, appealed for protection to his superiors, but his requests were ignored.

There are also reports of gang rape and drug use among submarine sailors based at the Clyde naval base in Scotland. According to the newspaper's informant, "acts of a sexual nature" are committed with sailors during "initiation". Thus, a former sailor shared with the publication that on his submarine three young men were raped, eight tried to commit suicide.

Back in October 2022, the head of the Royal Navy was forced to issue a "humiliating apology for sexual assault and abuse of women" on submarines after it was revealed to the Daily Mail.

In mid-September, it was reported that the US Navy had commissioned a new fully gender-inclusive submarine, USS New Jersey. It was specified that the USS New Jersey is designed for both genders with amenities such as increased privacy in restrooms and sleeping areas.
