During the New Year vacation you can not only have a proper rest from work, but also evaluate your career with a "cool head". And, perhaps, to make corrective or radical decisions in order to reach a new professional level. On how to conduct such an audit, experts of the online recruiting platform hh.ru told Izvestia.

"Work occupies a significant part of our lives, and ideally it should bring not only income, but also pleasure. Start with a simple diagnosis to understand whether your current job really brings you more joy than annoyance," the experts noted.

They suggested thinking about: whether a person attends work with joy, whether the work corresponds to values, whether a person wants to improve in work, whether he or she can imagine himself or herself in this profession in five and 10 years, whether he or she has the opportunity to develop competencies, whether the profession is in demand on the market.

"If you answered these questions positively, it means that you are in your place and have every chance to develop your career to your advantage. If, on the other hand, you answered most of the questions negatively, then you should probably think about changing jobs or even your profession. In both cases, it will be useful to conduct deeper stages of career audit to understand where and how to move in 2025," experts said.

According to them, one should define a career goal.

"Do you want to work in company X in position Y and get N thousand? This is the career goal. It differs from a dream by clear parameters and deadlines, as well as the presence of a plan. By the way, career goals are not necessarily related to a change of specialty or promotion - you can develop within your current role," the experts said.

They recommended formulating and writing down all work-related goals, desires and intentions. Then try to thin out that list by asking yourself: "Is this really what I want?" It is important to be specific about one's intentions, only then can one build a plan of action. Potential career goals need to be correlated with the skills one already has and does not yet have. This will help to understand whether there is a need for additional training.

Next, it's important to research the job market for the profession

"This exercise will come in handy even for those who have no plans to change jobs. Studying the job market will help you understand what skills and experience are in demand today, what employers expect and whether you are up to date in your profession. It's also a good way to determine what kind of salary you might qualify for. Make a list of potentially interesting employers, update your resume and prepare a cover letter template for responses. If you see ways of development in your current company - write the text of a letter to promote your candidacy for current and potential vacancies", - experts advised.

After that, you need to work through a base of useful contacts. HR-specialists, managers and just employees of interesting companies, former colleagues, classmates, members of specialized communities, recruitment agencies and so on - all can be congratulated on the New Year, reminding about themselves, renewing contact to inform them about their readiness to consider offers after the holidays.

Earlier, on December 18, it was reported that almost half (47%) of Russians surveyed are considering for themselves the possibility of changing jobs in 2025. Among them, 3% will do it for sure, and 44% are ready for the transition only if they get a good offer. This is stated in the results of the research of the service "Work.ru".
