The oldest member of Pearl Harbor has died at the age of 105


In the United States at the age of 105 died the oldest surviving participant in the events at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the last surviving member of the crew of the battleship USS Utah Warren Upton. The Associated Press (AP) reported the news on Dec. 28.
Upton died in a hospital Dec. 25 in California after enduring complications that were caused by pneumonia. He was 22 years old when Japanese aircraft attacked a U.S. naval base.
In interviews, he recounted that after the second torpedo hit the ship he was on, the ship capsized and capsized. Only by swimming he reached Ford Island, where he was able to shelter from aerial bombardment, and half an hour later the man was evacuated.
The publication noted that after Upton's death, there were only 15 survivors of the attack.
The 1941 Japanese attack on U.S. forces at the Pearl Harbor naval base prompted U.S. involvement in World War II.
