The expert told about actions in case of appearance of a malfunction sign in a car

On the dashboard of most cars there are many different indicators - icons that indicate a malfunction. There may be a different number of them, depending on the car model and year of manufacture, said Nikita Rodionov, technical director of the international franchise network of car service centers FIT SERVICE. He told Izvestia on December 30, what to do if the malfunction icon is lit.

"Conditionally, we can divide all instrument panel signals into critical malfunction signs and warning signs. All serious problems are illuminated with red lights, and yellow and other colors are lit warning or information signals," he specified.

According to him, in modern cars all signals additionally duplicate information messages on the panel. That is, the driver can read what exactly happened to the car and make an informed decision about further actions. However, in cars that were purchased under parallel imports, far from always the information is not always given in Russian, so there may be difficulties in deciphering the signal.

"In older cars, which are the majority on Russian roads, there may also be problems with reading the signal icons. Therefore, to figure out what to do, in the moment, if suddenly lights up some signal, is not always easy even for an experienced driver," - added the expert.

Rodionov recommended that in case of any doubts to go to the car service center for diagnostics as soon as possible. It is possible to drive, observing precautions, if the yellow color signal lights up.

"It can be, for example, Check Engine, or simply "check" - that is, a recommendation to check the engine. The reasons why the "check" lights up can be many: from serious to minor problems. It can be a clogged catalytic converter, problems with ignition coils, worn plugs or a banal dirty fuel filter. However, if together with the lighted signal the driver starts to feel other manifestations of problems, such as loss of traction, jerking or vibration, it is better to stop and call a tow truck," he explained.

This recommendation applies to any warning light. If together with the lighted signal there are other alarming symptoms, then it is necessary to stop the car and go to the service station by tow truck. Such a decision will save the budget from unnecessary spending on the finally ruined unit or assembly, the expert emphasized.

"An alarming signal of red color - an exclamation mark in a circle - is a malfunction of the braking system. But do not hurry to panic. The same signal indicates an activated handbrake. So first of all, check whether you have taken the car off the handbrake. If the matter is not in it - immediately stop," said Rodionov.

According to him, among the most frequent indicators can burn "oil light", battery, engine temperature and steering wheel. All these signs require an immediate stop and certain actions from the driver. If after independent manipulations and checks the signal does not go out, then you can not move on the car, you need to call a tow truck and go to the service station.

Speaking about the options that can be abandoned by motorists in the Russian Federation, the experts noted the parking autopilot. According to them, this system does not always cope with narrow yards and non-standard parking spaces, which abound in small Russian cities. At the same time, they emphasized the value of such a function as automatic emergency braking. The system reacts independently to the danger of a collision if the driver is distracted.
