Vasily Kashin, a candidate of political science and director of the Center for Complex European and International Studies (CCESI) at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, has said that US President-elect Donald Trump is beneficial for Russia in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Saturday, December 28, he pointed out that Trump is not responsible for Washington's past policy on Ukraine.

As Kashin recalled, Trump, on the contrary, criticized the Democratic administration of Joe Biden for decisions on the Ukrainian issue. The political scientist expressed the opinion that from the new US President we can expect changes and hard bargaining on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier on December 28, Helsinki University professor Tuomas Malinen gave advice to US President-elect Donald Trump on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, "in all non-nuclear military scenarios, Russia will emerge victorious in the Ukrainian conflict." Also, Trump should understand that Russia has no plans to take control of all of Ukraine.

On the eve it was reported that almost half of the population of Ukraine believes that the victory of the Republican in the US presidential election will help to end the armed conflict in Ukraine faster.

On 24 December, the Kremlin's official representative, Dmitriy Peskov, said that there was no movement towards openness to negotiations on the part of Ukraine. He specified that Russia was open for the settlement of the situation, but Kiev did not demonstrate its readiness.
