- Military analyst points to West's understanding of the impossibility of defeating Russian Federation in combat

The West realizes that at the moment it seems impossible to defeat Russia on the battlefield, even by joining forces to support Ukraine. Against the background of this and Donald Trump's victory in the US elections, Western politicians may come to negotiations with Moscow. Vadim Mingalev, a political scientist and military analyst, shared this opinion with Izvestia on January 1.
According to him, the US Democratic Party set a course to defeat Russia, but this did not happen - neither with the help of Ukraine, which was used as a supplier of manpower, nor through sanctions pressure.
"In 2025, the Anglo-Saxon world will prefer to negotiate, because they realize that it is impossible to defeat Russia with weapons at this stage. <...> Trump will therefore do everything possible to stop the conflict and shift responsibility for it to the administration of his predecessor, Democratic President Joe Biden," the expert said.
He also emphasized that the situation will worsen for Ukraine, as Russia is rapidly moving westward with the course of the conflict.
Earlier, on December 26, The Washington Post (WP) reported that Trump is letting the European Union (EU) know that he is going to cut aid to Ukraine. Specifically, he has not yet taken office, but he is already pressuring European countries to increase aid deliveries to Kiev. This is part of his strategy to make Europe more responsible in the context of the Ukrainian conflict.
Before that, on December 24, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said that he did not want a repeat of the situation with the Minsk agreements, but wanted a just, sustainable and secure world. In the Rada, commenting on these words, said that this is bad news for the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired).
At the same time, the Kremlin's official representative, Dmitriy Peskov, said that there was no movement towards openness to negotiations on the part of Ukraine. He specified that Russia was open for the settlement of the situation, but Kiev did not demonstrate its readiness.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
