"Private Benjamin" and "Father of the Bride" screenwriter Charles Shyer has died at age 83

American film director, screenwriter and producer Charles Shyer died in the United States at the age of 83, Deadline reported on December 28, citing a statement from the filmmaker's family.

"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the death of our beloved father, Charles Shyer. His loss was a devastation in our lives, but his legacy will live on through his children and the 50 years of remarkable work he left behind," it reads.

Shyer was nominated for an Academy Award for his screenplay for the comedy "Private Benjamin" (1980). Among the famous films in the creation of which he participated as a director and screenwriter, also comedy "Father of the Bride" (1991) and its sequel "Father of the Bride 2" (1995), drama "The Story of the Necklace" (2001), "I Love Trouble" (1994), "Handsome Alfie, or What Men Want" (2004) and others.

One of the latest works of the author was the movie "The Most. Best. Christmas" (Best. Christmas. Ever!), released in 2023 on Netflix.
