The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are demoralized due to the growing risk of their defeat in the Kursk Region. The Associated Press (AP) reported on December 28.

"Five months after a shock offensive against Russia, Ukrainian troops are bloodied and demoralized by the growing risk of defeat in Kursk, a region that some want to hold on to at all costs while others doubt the value of invading at all," the publication said.

The piece notes that some commanders of troops sent on the invasion operation in the Kursk region complain of harsh conditions on the front line and low morale. According to the heads of companies, fighters doubt not only in the decisions of the command, but also in the very purpose of the occupation.

The day before, on December 27, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the AFU's losses in Kursk region amounted to more than 600 servicemen during the day. In addition, the agency added that in total, the enemy lost more than 44,570 soldiers during the fighting in the Kursk direction.

On the same day, surrendered in Kursk region AFU soldier Alexander Tsveli called on fellow soldiers to leave their positions and surrender to the Russian Armed Forces to save their lives.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
