- Ex-EP deputy named the termination of gas supplies from Russia as the cause of the crisis in Germany
One of the reasons for the economic crisis in Germany is the interruption of cheap oil and gas supplies from Russia. High energy prices are putting a lot of pressure on German industry. This was stated by former member of the European Parliament (EP), French politician Hervé Juvene in an interview with Izvestia on December 28.
"Germany's industrial disaster is largely caused by the cessation of supplies from Russia. Some major countries, in particular BRICS members, play a prominent role in supplying the European Union countries with Russian oil and gas," he said.
He noted that the supply of Russian oil and gas continues through intermediaries despite the official decisions against it by European leaders, because the European Union and European industry "have a vital need" for these resources.
According to the politician, there is no peace in Europe and "the prospect of prosperity is melting away." The EU's economic problems will grow, Juvene suggests.
The former EP deputy concluded that the foundations of the European Union as a necessary community are disappearing. This, in his opinion, raises the question of why the EU is needed at all.
Earlier, on December 23, British analyst Alexander Mercouris called the decision to cut Germany off from cheap and reliable gas supplies from Russia a fundamental problem for the economic crisis in Germany.
Before that, December 18, it was reported that the share of gas imports from Russia to European countries has increased again, the country remains one of the largest suppliers of gas to Europe. It is noted that at the moment Europeans are paying more for energy and some of the most energy-intensive industries are struggling to remain competitive.
Earlier, December 16, Bloomberg reported that the German economy is stagnating and approaching the point of no return. According to analysts, the country is experiencing an energy crisis, and each household is losing about €2.5 thousand a year.
On 6 November, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak pointed out that European countries are interested in the continuation of gas transit from Russia through Ukraine, and the Russian side is ready to supply energy resources. At the same time, due to Ukraine's unreliability in this area, a number of states found themselves in a difficult situation, he noted.
