In Russia, the number of SME employees in Q3 was the highest in six years

At the end of the third quarter, the number of employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) amounted to 19.77 million people. This is the highest value compared to the data of the third quarters of 2019-2023, the autonomous non-profit organization (ANO) National Priorities told Izvestia on December 28.
It noted that employment growth in the sector means successful overcoming the consequences of restrictions and sanctions shocks of recent years. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak emphasized that this was largely due to the implementation of a set of measures to support SMEs within the framework of the national project "Small and Medium Entrepreneurship".
"Targeting of state support measures, control over their implementation in the regions allow us to support priority areas for the state. This work will be continued within the framework of a new cycle of national and federal projects, taking into account the fine-tuning of the most effective tools under the new goals and objectives outlined by the President [of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin]," the ANO quoted him as saying.
At the same time, as specified Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Tatyana Ilyushnikova, in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period of 2019, the largest absolute increase in the number of employees in the SME sector is observed in industry, tourism, IT. In terms of relative growth in the number of employees, the leaders are education (+51%), tourism (+39%) and IT (+32%).
The day before it was reported that in Russia the number of small and medium-sized businesses created in the current year exceeded 1 million. 814 thousand of them were created in the form of individual entrepreneurship, according to an analytical note of the autonomous non-profit organization "National Priorities".
