Emergency regime of regional character introduced in Crimea due to fuel oil spillage

Crimea has introduced a regional technogenic emergency regime due to a fuel oil spill after a tanker crash in the Black Sea. The corresponding decree of the head of the republic Sergey Aksenov was published on December 28 on the website of the government of the peninsula.

"To determine the boundaries of the zone of technogenic emergency of regional character within the territories of the municipalities of the urban district of Kerch of the Republic of Crimea and Leninsky district of the Republic of Crimea," the document reads.

Aksyonov also determined the head of the liquidation of the technogenic emergency in the republic the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Yuri Gotsanyuk.

According to the decree, the heads of Kerch and Leninsky district administrations should ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the coastal zone to identify areas contaminated with oil products.

Head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Kurenkov arrived in Anapa on December 26 to supervise the liquidation of fuel oil. The press service of the agency said that more than 23.5 thousand tons of contaminated sand had been collected and removed from the territory of Kuban since the beginning of the work. At the same time, a unit for pumping oil products out of tankers in distress was delivered to the region, and its testing on land began.

On the same day the Governor of Krasnodar Region Veniamin Kondratiev asked the Minister for federal assistance with the liquidation of the fuel oil spill on the coast. In addition, the region was placed under a federal state of emergency.
