On the eve of the New Year vacations, the State Automobile Inspectorate has reminded drivers of the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who sat behind the wheel after drinking alcohol will be conducted throughout the holidays in all regions of the country, the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Department for Traffic Safety told Izvestia on December 30.

"Seeing that a drunk person sat behind the wheel, behaves inadequately, creates dangerous situations on the road, do not remain indifferent - report it to the police. Employees of the State Automobile Inspectorate will certainly take all necessary measures to respond to such reports", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of propaganda of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

The department also noted that despite the New Year holidays, road users who violated traffic rules should not count on leniency of traffic police inspectors. In any case, the violators will be sanctioned, provided by law for this or that offense, emphasized the agency.

During the long New Year and Christmas vacations, many motorists traditionally go on road trips to other cities. To make such a trip a success, the State Traffic Inspectorate strongly recommends drivers to learn in advance about the restrictions that due to weather conditions may be introduced on the roads of the regions they plan to visit. Information about closures and restrictions in traffic is promptly posted on the official website of the State Automobile Inspectorate.

Going on a trip with children, drivers should triple their attention and caution behind the wheel - should refuse to overtake, avoid dangerous and ill-considered maneuvers, strictly comply with the requirements of road signs and markings, in no case distracted from controlling the traffic situation and driving. Of course, transportation of children should be carried out in compliance with all established requirements for their safety: in a child restraint device, corresponding to the height and weight of the child, emphasized in the traffic police.

"Transportation of children under the age of 7 years should be carried out only with the use of child restraints. At the age of 7 to 12 years, transportation is possible with the use of child restraints or seat belts, and on the front seat of a passenger car - only in child restraints," - reminded Anton Belan.

At the same time it is absolutely inadmissible to use for these purposes cushions and various pads on the belt: in case of an accident or even sudden braking they can not ensure the safety of a small passenger, he emphasized.

Before the trip it is necessary to make sure of the technical serviceability of the car, remind the traffic police. Particular attention should be paid to the operation of lights, braking and steering systems, as well as the heating system. It is necessary to plan the route in such a way that the driver had the opportunity to rest on the way, reminded in the department.

In case of any emergency situations on the road motorists can always ask for help to the employees of the State Automobile Inspectorate. Detachments of traffic police are always ready to help and support road users, caught in a difficult situation on the highway, said Anton Belan.

December 28, member of the Presidium of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs Igor Morzharetto told "Izvestia" that car owners, whose cars have registration plates without the tricolor, will not have to change them. He specified that the recently adopted GOST for state registration plates, which stipulates the mandatory presence of the Russian tricolor on the plate from January 1, 2025, is not retroactive.
