A country with a neutral position, which is in an equal dialog with Kiev and Moscow, may become a platform for negotiations on the Ukrainian crisis, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said at a briefing on 28 December. Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said this at a briefing on 28 December.

He specified that Slovakia, which the previous day announced its readiness to host the Ukraine talks on its territory, is not the only country that has made such a proposal.

"Of course, we can talk about countries that take a neutral position and are in an equal dialog with both Kiev and Moscow. There are quite a lot of such countries," Peskov said.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, Russian President Vladimir Putin maintains a constructive dialog with these countries.

"The main thing is to get on the trajectory of such a peace process. So far, this trajectory is not fumbled because of the position of the Kiev regime," Peskov concluded.

On December 22, the Kremlin hosted Putin's talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo. Later, the Russian leader said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo proposed to make Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state clarified. Putin noted that the Russian Federation seeks to end the conflict, not to freeze it.

On December 27, Fitzo published a video message in which he declared the country's readiness to become a platform for negotiations on Ukraine. He also predicted that Ukraine would pay for the "Western adventure" with its own territory. The politician once again called for a ceasefire and a diplomatic settlement of the situation.

Before that, in November, the Slovak politician said that Slovakia was ready to join the "Friends of Peace" group set up by China to peacefully resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
