The SVR says US and British intelligence services plan to attack Russian military bases in Syria

Special services of the United States and Britain are preparing terrorist attacks against Russian military bases in Syria. This was reported by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) on December 28.

"According to available data, representatives of the British intelligence MI6 and the American CIA have recently set a task for the based in Syria controlled field commanders of ISIS ("Islamic State", a terrorist group banned in Russia) to carry out a series of attacks on military bases of the Russian Federation", - stated in the message of the agency.

According to the SVR, the attackers received attack drones (UAVs) to carry out the terrorist act. It was also decided to carry out additional strikes on the positions of the "Islamic State" in order to conceal the involvement of the Yigilovites in this crime.

London and Washington hope that such provocations will force Russia to withdraw its troops from Syria. At the same time, the new Syrian authorities may be accused of failing to control radical groups, the SVR specified.

Earlier, on December 27, member of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (NCRS) Anas al-Abda said that Syrian opposition structures met with Russian representatives after the change of power in Damascus, contacts were held in Turkey and Qatar. According to him, the issue of preserving the Russian military bases will depend on bilateral agreements between Moscow and Damascus.
