Ovechkin could play Saturday against Toronto for the first time since his injury

Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin, who plays for the hockey club (HC) "Washington Capitals", can resume the chase for the record of Canadian Wayne Gretzky on Saturday, December 28, during a match against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is reported on December 27 on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Russian was injured in the third period of the game against Utah on November 19. The hockey player injured his knee in a collision with the opposing team's forward Jack McBain and was forced to leave the ice. Later, the hockey player's agent Gleb Chistyakov said that the athlete feels normal, but will miss four to six weeks due to a fracture of the left fibula.
Ovechkin had his first full practice with his team on Friday. At the time, Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said that "things are going in the right direction," but he can't say for sure if the Russian will be at the game on Saturday, according to Sport-Express.
"It is impossible to replace him. <...> his presence cannot be replaced and everything. His ability on the ice, his performance - he has no equal. I've played with a lot of guys. There's no one like him," added Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson.
Prior to that, Ovechkin resumed on-ice training on December 2.
The Russian hockey player's injury temporarily halted his pursuit of Gretzky's record. In the November game against Utah, Ovechkin increased to 868 the total number of goals in the regular season.
