Non-fiction about the most underestimated woman of the Roman Empire, a manual to fight against achievers and memoirs of a witness of political upheaval in Iran. Ekaterina Pisareva, editor-in-chief of LitRes Group, told Izvestia about the six most curious books of 2024.

The publishing house "Alpina Publishers" released "The Age of Burnout Superheroes" by Alexei Soloviev. In it, the author explains why there is nothing good in the "obsession with efficiency", how over-exertion depletes our vitality and slowly but surely leads to depression.

"When everyone around you imposes "successful success" and strategies to improve yourself, it's hard to remain indifferent. But the popularity of motivational literature is gradually declining: people have begun to get tired of it," said the editor.

There was a lot of talk about the novel "Yellowface" by Chinese-born American writer Rebecca Kuang, released in Russia by Fanzon, partly due to a local translation scandal.

"But if we omit the fact that Fanzon has not perfectly executed the translation into Russian, we must admit - the book deserves to be read," Pisareva emphasized.

The editor also noted the books "What I kept silent about" by Azar Nafisi, "Messalina. Debauchery, slander and intrigue in imperial Rome" Honora Cargill-Martin, "Push Back from the Pause" by Daria Blagova, and "The Testament of Water" by Abraham Verghese.
